Land clearing goes faster when the mulcher matches your mini skid steer and the brush you’re cutting. Mini Mulcher’s MM38 and MM46 drum forestry attachments are built for that job—same drum-mulcher approach, different working width and production. Here’s a practical way to choose without overbuying or undersizing.
Start with the job site
- Tight trails, fence lines, lighter brush, or smaller carriers → look at the MM38. The narrower drum is easier to thread through confined paths and around obstacles.
- Wider cutting, heavier piles, lot prep, or contracting production → look at the MM46. Extra width means fewer passes on open acreage and faster cleanup on brush piles and pipeline ROW work.
Both models are drum forestry mulchers for mini skid steers: they grind vegetation and leave mulch on the ground so you spend less time hauling debris. Match the head to how often you clear, how wide the typical pass needs to be, and how thick the material usually is.
Compare cut width and capacity
On published Mini Mulcher specs, working width is about 710 mm on the MM38 and about 970 mm on the MM46. Cutting diameter ratings are higher on the MM46 as well. In plain terms: the MM38 favors maneuverability; the MM46 favors acres-per-day when you have room to swing a wider drum.
If most of your work is trail maintenance, residential lots with gates, or machines that prefer a lighter attachment, start with the MM38. If you regularly clear fence rows into open pasture, storm debris across a pad, or commercial land clearing where every pass counts, the MM46 is usually the better fit.
Check your mini skid steer first
Before you order, confirm hydraulic flow, pressure, and mounting for your carrier. Mini skid steers vary, and a drum mulcher only performs when the machine can supply what the attachment needs. If you’re unsure, contact Mini Mulcher with your machine make and model—we’ll help you size MM38 vs MM46 to the carrier you already own.
Plan for wear parts (hardened steel teeth)
Drum mulchers earn their keep in abrasive dirt, sand, and rocky roots. Treat teeth as consumable wear parts. Keep a stock of the forestry mulcher replacement hardened steel tooth so a worn tooth doesn’t stop the day, and keep a replacement belt on hand for the drive.
If you’re building or repairing a tooth mount, we also offer weld-on mulcher teeth mounting brackets for drum maintenance work.
Quick decision guide
- List your typical jobs: trails vs open lots, light brush vs heavier stems.
- Note your mini skid’s hydraulics and mount.
- Choose MM38 for tight work and lighter carriers; MM46 for wider cuts and higher production.
- Add hardened steel replacement teeth (and a belt) so downtime stays low.
